Rustins – Wood Dye – Interior/Exterior 250ml
Intended Use for Rustins Wood Dye:
For application to all types of new, bare wood or that which has been stripped.
It is suitable for interior and exterior use.
Special Features of Rustins Wood Dye:
There are 11 natural wood shades, which can be inter-mixed.
They are non-fading, non-bleeding and does not raise the grain of the wood.
They are also quick drying.
Rustins Wood Dye conforms to Safety of Toys Regulations BS EN 71 Part 3 1995.
It is important to note though, that the final colour achieved might depend on the original colour of the wood.
Preparation – The wood must be clean, dry and free of wax, by using White Spirit or Sugar Soap on previous coatings and contaminants.
Application – Use a rag or brush to apply an even coat and then wipe off any excess dye.
Please note that the result will be much darker on softwoods than on hardwoods.
For a lighter shade though, you can dilute the dye with White Spirit, 2 parts dye to 1 part White Spirit.
Coats – Usually 1 application is sufficient, or 2 for a darker colour.
Drying Time – 6-8 hours under normal conditions, depending on the absorbency of the wood.
Re-coating Time – 8 hours typically, but preferably overnight if applying acrylic water-based varnishes.
Application Temp. – Ideally 15-25°C.
Coverage – Up to 24 sq.m per litre, per coat, depending on the absorbency of the wood.
Settlement – STIR WELL AND SHAKE VIGOURSLY BEFORE USE.
Special note:
To ensure the correct shade is obtained, it is advisable to stir the contents at the bottom of the container then shake well before use.
If more than one container is to be used, these must be mixed together before use, to ensure no variation in the shade.
Shelf-life/Storage – Many years if stored in original, tightly closed container, in a cool dry place.
Clean-Up – Equipment can be cleaned using White Spirit.
